Om akupunktur
1984 godkände socialstyrelsen användning av akupunktur med västerländsk inriktning som behandlingsmetod för smärta inom svensk sjukvård. Detta innebär att förklaringsmodellerna för hur metoden fungerar bygger på ett fysiologiskt resonemang. 1993 utvidgades indikationsområdet att även innefatta vissa sjukdomstillstånd enligt påvisad vetenskap och beprövad erfarenhet.
AKAB Utbildning har bedrivit utbildning i akupunktur för legitimerad vårdpersonal sedan 1985.
AKAB Utbildning lär ut klinisk kunskap med vetenskaplig förankring där stor vikt läggs vid förståelsen av de mekanismer som styr effekterna av nålstimulering, dvs stick- och stimuleringsteknik, omhändertagandet av patienter och den egna terapeutiska rollen.
De teoretiska föreläsningarna och praktiska momenten leds av lärare (leg. sjukgymnaster, leg. läkare, leg. sjuksköterskor och barnmorskor) med lång erfarenhet av kliniskt arbete med akupunktur, utbildning och forskning.
Varför skall jag lära mig Akupunktur – ett evidensbaserat medicinskt perspektiv
Akupunktur är en mångfacetterad behandlingsmetod som framförallt har använts inom svensk sjukvård för behandling av smärta alltsedan den blev godkänd av Socialstyrelsen 1984.
SBU (Statens beredning för medicinsk utvärdering) och tyska G-BA (Gemeinsamer Bundesausschuss) har i utredningar kommit till slutsatsen att det finns god vetenskaplig evidens för smärtlindrande effekt av behandling med akupunktur. G-BA har förutom genomgång av det vetenskapliga underlaget genomfört randomiserade kliniska kontrollerade studier (RCT) omfattande totalt 454 920 patienter som behandlats med akupunktur för smärta. Studierna har visat att akupunktur och även minimal akupunktur, ytlig akupunkturstimulering, är lika eller mer effektiv än standardbehandling vid migrän, knäledsartros och ländryggssmärta.
Resultatet av dessa studier samt det faktum att akupunkturbehandling har visat sig vara en kostnadseffektiv och säker behandlingsmetod utgör grund för att använda akupunktur som en enskild metod eller som ett komplement till annan behandling.

Great importance is put to the mechanisms that control the effects of needle stimulation, i.e. the pricking- and stimulating technique, the care of the patients and the self therapeutic role.

The practical moments are led by authorized physiotherapists and doctors with many years experience of acupuncture treatment and acupuncture courses. Professor and chief physician Thomas Lundeberg is responsible for the courses.
